As a UFC Fan Expo exhibitor, you are responsible for collecting 13% HST on any sales you generate onsite at UFC Fan Expo. If you carry on business in Canada for HST purposes, you must register and collect the 13% HST on your sales at UFC Fan Expo.
If you are registered for HST, you are entitled to claim input tax credits or "ITCs" for HST paid on your purchases to the extent that you are engaged in commercial taxable activities in Canada. The ITCs are offset against the HST collectible on the sales and only the net tax due is remitted to the Canada Revenue Agency. If the net tax results in a refund, the Canada Revenue Agency will issue a cheque.
If you do not carry on business in Canada for HST purposes, you are not required to register; and therefore, not required to collect HST.
Items brought into Canada for purposes of UFC Fan Expo will likely be subject to 5% GST on importation. As noted above, if you are registered for HST purposes, you likely can claim an ITC. Click here for more information on what qualifies.
For non-resident exhibitors, click here for information on various related Canadian tax topics.
Be sure to review the Canada Revenue Agency Guideto determine whether or not your company is considered to be carrying on business in Canada for GST purposes.
The outline above is intended for your general guidance only. You should contact your usual tax advisors for HST advice specific to your business.
Be sure to review the Online Exhibitor Manual in advance of the Expo for important tips and timelines you will need. Find information about your Expo badge allotment, Toronto tax collection, general contractors, and more. Get started.

BEWARE of the Fair Guide
Reed Exhibitions and The UFC® Fan Expo do NOT support the Fair Guide -- it is NOT affiliated with Reed Exhibitions or UFC® Fan Expo. Please be aware that you may receive solicitations for the Fair Guide from Construct Data, its publisher, which use the name of The UFC® Fan Expo – do not be fooled. Construct Data currently operates out of Slovakia (it has previously operated out of Austria and Germany).
BEWARE of the Expo-Guide
Reed Exhibitions and The UFC® Fan Expo also do NOT support the Expo-Guide -- it is NOT affiliated with Reed Exhibitions or UFC® Fan Expo. Please be aware that you may receive solicitations for the Expo-Guide from Commercial Online Manuals, its publisher, which use the name of The UFC® Fan Expo – again, do not be fooled. The Expo-Guide currently operates out of Mexico.
For further warnings on the Fair Guide and the Expo-Guide, please check out www.stopecg.org (the website was set up originally to deal with the European City Guides, but it now addresses the Fair Guide and Expo-Guide as well as several other similar matters).
And please remember – the only directories and guides affiliated with Reed Exhibitions are those published by Reed Exhibitions, including the official show directories. If you have any doubts about a directory/guide solicitation using the UFC® Fan Expo name (for example, if the solicitation requires payment made to an address in a foreign country), please contact an UFC® Fan Expo salesperson ASAP.
